Title
Interior of building in Tokenhouse Yard
Description
Principal first floor chamber of 12 Tokenhouse Yard, City of London. Designed by architect E. A. Gruning and built as the headquarters of London merchant bank Frederick Huth and Company in 1872. From 1937-2003 it was the headquarters of investment bankers, Cazenove and Company and the room pictured in this image was their Senior Partners' room. The room contains chairs and two desks scattered with paperwork and telephones. Two ornate mahogany pedimented doors are visible in the west wall of the room and part of its ornate plasterwork ceiling can be seen. A marble mantelpiece with fireguard beneath is between the doors. Above the mantelpiece is a painting which depicts the same view of the same room but with a different painting above the mantelpiece. This painting shows the room 'in action' with bankers seated at desks, on the telephone, talking and standing. The building was Grade II listed in 1977; listing number 1358903.
