Title
Bank of England in Threadneedle Street
Description
A view of the Threadneedle Street façade of the Bank of England, City of London. The ground-floor walls, featuring Corinthian columns, are all that is left of Sir John Soames' building which was built in 1828. Everything inside and above this was rebuilt by Sir Herbert Baker, starting in 1925. This includes the upper stories of this façade which is also decorated by classical columns which support a portico. There are also a number of decorative statues which were designed by Sir Charles Wheeler, including the Lady Of The Bank in the portico. The building was Grade I listed in 1950; listing number 1079134. The building beyond the Bank Of England is the National Westminster Bank, which was constructed in 1929 to a design by Sir Edwin Cooper. It was Grade II listed in 1977; listing number 1064599. On the left of the photo is the wall of the Royal Exchange, with a protruding ornate clock. Cars and a number of pedestrians can also be seen.
