View of Throgmorton Street
Description
View westwards along Throgmorton Street, City of London. The main focus of the photograph is the diverse frontages of 27-30 Throgmorton Street which are located on its north side. On the south side, only the very edge of the Stock Exchange building can be seen along with part of its entrance sign. From right to left the buildings are: 27a Throgmorton Street with its grand entrance with triangular pediment, double-height windows at first-floor level and iron Juliet balcony; 27b Throgmorton Street is the Throgmorton Restaurant. This restaurant, which had its main dining rooms below street level and offices above, was opened in 1900 by J Lyons and Company in property leased to them for 80 years by the Worshipful Company of Drapers. It closed in 2002 and was refurbished and reopened from 2004-2013 when it was again closed. In the middle of the frontage of the Throgmorton Restaurant is the grand stone entrance to Drapers' Hall which is identifiable in this image by its triangular pediment and stone statues to either side. Beyond this is Drapers Hall Archway which leads to Throgmorton Avenue. The whole of the Drapers´ Hall complex was Grade II listed in 1972; listing number 1358902. Next is the entrance to Warnford Court, identifiable by the hanging clock which protrudes from the building. This is the narrow south side of Warnford Court which is a long, symmetrical Victorian office building which runs along Throgmorton Avenue.
