Title
Banks in Threadneedle Street
Description
A view of the northern side of Threadneedle Street, City of London. The façades of a number of banks and offices can be seen, with the nearest being the Bank Of Montreal, whose entrance is at number 43. Built in 1890 by T.H. Smith, the building has a number of Classical features, including Tuscan granite columns at street level. It was Grade II listed in 1977; listing number 1180569. As a result, the exterior was preserved when most of the interior was gutted in 2001. The building at 41-42 is a branch of National Westminster Bank and was built around 1900 to the design of John Macvicar Anderson. It was Grade II listed in 1977; listing number 1079133. Number 40 is set back from the street and only its wrought-iron gates are visible. Beyond the gates, the building at 37-38 is the Bank Of Scotland. It was built in 1902 for the British Linen Bank, also to the design of John Macvicar Anderson.
