View of Threadneedle Street
Description
View eastwards along Threadneedle Street towards Bishopsgate, City of London. On the left is the entrance of the National Westminster Bank Overseas Branch, 51-53 Threadneedle Street. Built between 1922 and 1936 by Mewes and Davis, this is an Italianate Classical building with an Art Deco-feel. It occupies a triangular corner plot at the junction of Old Broad Street and Threadneedle Street and has a clock at the top of the central entrance. It was Grade II listed in 1972; listing number 1079129. The tower block in the distance is the Commercial Union building, which was completed in 1969 but substantially renovated in 1992 as a result of damage caused by the Baltic Exchange bomb.
