Bank of England in Threadneedle Street
Description
View from south side of Bank junction towards Threadneedle Street showing front façade of the Bank of England, City of London. At this time it was a three-storey building designed by Sir John Soane between 1788 and 1833. It was almost entirely rebuilt by architect Herbert Baker between 1925 and 1939 becoming a seven-storey building and retaining the original windowless outer wall. It was Grade I listed in 1950; listing number 1079134. A horse-drawn omnibus is parked outside the Bank of England and a horse-drawn hackney cab is at one of the two visible traffic islands. Two women appear to be having a conversation in front of the hackney cab. The building at the corner of Bartholomew Lane and Threadneedle Street is also visible.
