Building in Wardrobe Place
Description
View of the doorway of 5a Wardrobe Place, City of London, with a 'To Let' sign above and the archway to Queen Victoria Street. The street was developed in 1720s and was historically the site of the King's Wardrobe from 1359. It was a storehouse for the royal accoutrements and the accounts of the Royal Household. The wardrobe was abolished in 1782. The buildings on the western side date from the rebuilding of the city after the Great Fire.
