View of Newbury Street
Description
A view of Newbury Street, City of London looking towards Kinghorn Street from Cloth Street. On either side of the street can be seen the nineteenth and twentieth-century warehouses and business premises. On the left can be seen the business premises of Hammett & Matanle Ltd. at 14-15 Newbury Street with the business' sign hanging from a metal rod petruding from the first floor. A large To Let sign for the buliding or that at 10-13 Newbury Street can also be seen attached to the building. The sign names the agents as Anstey, Horne. A For Sale sign hangs on the outside of a building further down the street at around 29-30 Newbury Street. Scaffolding can be seen attached to some of the buildings. A metal walk way spans buildings at the end of the street. In the distance behind Kinhorn Street can be seen the medieval Anglican Parish church of St Bartholomew the Great with the windows of the Choir clearly visible. On the far left hand side on the corner of 14-15 can be seen damaged brick work, the remains of a demolished building damaged by bombs during World War II. The first floor of the building at 19-22 Newbury Street is covered in light coloured tiles. A small number of vehicles can be seen in the street including a Jaguar, a small delivery van and a small lorry. A black and white bollard sits in front of 14-15 Newbury Street. The floor of the street shows signs that it has been raining. The buildings on the left side of the street survive which much of the right side having been rebuilt. At the end of the street in Kinghorn Street is now an apartment building which prevents the church behind it from being seen.
