Interior of Capel House in New Broad Street
Description
A view of the ground-floor reception area inside the Grade II listed Capel House at 58-62 New Broad Street, City of London as seen from the entrance. The photo was likely taken during re-furbishment work as indicated by the temporary ply wood walls and ceiling surrounding the wooden reception desk. A wire with attached light bulb can be seen hanging from the ceiling. Wooden panelling, columns and an arch (arch to the left of the reception desk), likely designed by C.F.A. Voysey can be seen at the sides of the photograph. Packaging and wire paper trays can be seen to the sides of the reception desk. On top of the receiption desk can be seen a book, an envelope and a rectangular plastic 'Reception sign. The floor is covered with dirty light coloured tiles. Capel House of 1905-1906 was designed by Paul Hoffman with the ground floor altered by the Arts and Crafts architect C.F.A Voysey in around 1909-1910 for the Essex and Suffolk Equitable Insurance Company. The building survives and became known as Cable House. It is not known how much of the original interior survives.
