Interior of building in New Street
Description
A view of a plain marble fireplace inside one of the Grade II listed late eighteenth-century houses at 5-6 New Street, City of London. The painted fireplace contains an empty space where the grate once sat with wooden boards on the floor of the hole. The fireplace consists of five panels with the two side columns containing long panels which widen as they ascend from each column's narrow base. The fire surround is surmounted by a flat mantel piece. The walls are plain coloured and the floor is covered with a dark coloured carpet. It is not known if this fireplace survives.
