Title
Warehouses in New Street
Description
A view of the bottom level of a staircase inside Teetgen's Tea Warehouse at 16 New Street, City of London, one of the Cutler Street Warehouses originally built for the East India Company in the late eighteenth century. The wareshouse originally stored tea. The image shows the plain painted brick walls surrounding the cantilever staircase. The plain stone steps are bordered by plain iron banisters and a hand railing attached to the brick wall. At the top of the stairs attached to the brick wall can be seen a hand painted wooden sign stating 'Keep To The Right'. Debris including what appears to be an old up-turned ceramic sink covers the floor at the bottom of the stairs. Following re-development in the late 1970s to early 1980s, the Grade II listed building was converted into restaurants called the New St Grill and the 'Fish Market' on the ground floor and apartments within the upper levels of the building now called Tapestry Building.
