Title
Buildings in Old Jewry
Description
A view of number 35 Old Jewry, City of London. The building which still survives was originally designed by James Adam for Brothers & Self in c1775 and is Grade II listed. Evident in the brick built building are large Georgian sash windows and evidence of nineteenth-century alterations such as the large ground floor windows and entrance on the left of the building. On either side of the entrance can be seen name plates for the businesses occupying the building. On the far left hand side adjacent to number 35 can be seen part of the end of the early twentieth-century office building now known as Becket House at numbers 36 and 37 Old Jewry with design features similar to those used by the architect Edwin Lutyens. On the site of this building was once the church of St Mary Cole Church which was destroyed during the Great Fire of London in 1666. The buildings in the photograph still survive but the two large glass windows on the ground floor on the left of the building have been altered with the additon of sash windows replacing the single pane glass and the window frames behind that.
