Interior of The Bridewell Royal Hospital New Bridge Street
Description
A view of the ceiling and walls of the ground floor front room inside the former offices of The Royal Bridewell Hospital at the Grade II* listed 14 New Bridge Street, City of London. The ceiling contains a large ceiling rose consisting of a medium sized circular plaster ceiling rose made up of leaf motifs and an outer sunburst style circular ceiling rose similar in part to those designed by Robert Adam. The design appears to be Regency in style. At the tops of the walls can be seen ornate plaster coving consisting of what appear to be leaves. The walls are covered in Regency style wallpaper consiting of a repeating pattern of designs consisting of leaves and classical architectural features. From the central ceiling rose hangs a modern period up lighting light fitting possibly dating from the 1930s. The building which was originally built in c1805 and designed by James Lewis is no longer used as the offices of The Bridewell Royal Hospital but has since been occupied by the offices of Bark & Co. Solicitors. The building is now known as Bridewell Court, 14 New Bridge Street. It is not known whether the interior decorations shown in the image have survived.
