View of Old Change
Description
A view of Old Change, City of London, including people on the street wearing pre First World War dress such as men in straw boaters and a woman wearing a large brimmed hat. The view looks toward where St Paul's Churchyard and Watling Street intersects with Old Change. On the other side of Watling Street a man can be seen climbing a ladder by a sign advertising Anderson, Anderson & Anderson Limited, India Rubber Waterproof clothing manufacturers of 35 St Paul's Churchyard, City of London. At the foot of the ladder is a horse-drawn delivery van. Near the van can be seen the tower of the Church of England parish church of St Augustine Watling Street, designed by Sir Christopher Wren and built in 1683. On the right of the photograph before the intersection at Watling Street can be seen the windows of Sharp, Perrin & Co. wholesale baby linen manufacturers at numbers 28 to 31 Old Change. On the opposite side of Old Change can be seen a shop sign for A.E. Knight & Co. lace warehouse. Beside the sign is the premises of J. P. Restaurants Limited at 13A Old Change. Due to World War II bombing Old Change no longer exists. The Festival Gardens are now on the site of the street. The tower of St Augustine's Watling Street still survives.
