Description
A view of the Mansion House Street from in front of the Royal Exchange, City of London. Ahead is the colonnaded facade of the Mansion House, the official residence of the Lord Mayor of London. Designed by George Dance the Elder and built in 1739-53, it was Grade I listed in 1950; listing number 1064604. The rear of the statue of the Duke of Wellington can be seen. This is by Sir Francis Leggatt Chantrey and was unveiled in 1844 on the anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo. It was Grade II listed in 1972; listing number 1359168. In the foreground is a subway which leads down to Bank Station. The corner of Bank of England can just be seen across Threadneedle Street on the right.
