The Cornhill Water Pump in Cornhill
Description
Cornhill, City of London: full view of The Cornhill Water Pump (front), now a historical landmark. The pump bears the following inscription: 'On this spot a well was first made and a house of correction built thereupon by Henry Wallis mayor of London in the year 1282.' This references the original well upon which the pump was developed. Emblems of a Phoenix and Britannia are visible on the face and side of the pump. To the right, the shopfront and sign for "Geoffrey's Hairdresser" is visible. To the left, a hanging sign for the Royal Exchange is visible. Cornhill Water Pump was Grade II listed in 1950, list entry number: 1286648.
