View of a rear window in Ball Court, City of London. Part of the former offices of Union Discount Company of London at 39 Cornhill, and 1 St Michael' s Alley, looking south. The leaded light full-height window has ocular features within alternate pairs of the vertical panes, with carved timber mullions, a protective railing in front, and a cornice with a dentil frieze, above. The rear of the Grade II listed, listing number 1191985, Simpson's Tavern at 4 Castle Court (also at 38½ Cornhill) is visible, right. The three storeys of accommodation, above, is clad with white glazed tiles, a statutory requirement in some of the City's narrow alleyways, seen with a davit crane, most probably for loading goods from the pavement to the top floor. The Union building has since been developed and the window replaced by the marble-clad rear of the new building.
