Description
Head from one the Colossi of Monte Cavallo, Rome, by Phidias. One of the exhibits during installation at the reconstructed Crystal Palace exhibition hall at Sydenham Hill. The colossal statues of two horsemen on their steeds are attributed to the Ancient Greek sculptors Phidias and Praxiteles. The statues were brought to Rome from Alexandria in Egypt in the fourth century AD by the Emperor Constantine.
