On the diagonally opposite corner, at the junction of Golden Lane and Barbican, is a six-storey building with a domed turret, occupied on the lower floors by South Western Bank, later amalgamated into Barclays. Both bank buildings, exceptionally, survived the Blitz. The buildings in the foreground left were occupied by auctioneers, general merchants, manufacturers’ agents, fur and skin merchants and straw hat manufacturers. Redcross Street no longer exists. Horse-drawn carriages are in view.
