Chelsea School of Art was founded after the School of Art at Chelsea Polytechnic merged with the Hammersmith School of Art in 1908. A new, semi-autonomous 'Chelsea School of Art' was later created on the amalgamation of Chelsea School of Art and 'The Polytechnic School of Art', previously 'The West London School of Art' in 1964.
