Scene showing King Edward VI presenting the charter of Bridewell to the Lord Mayor, Sir George Barnes and the aldermen. Bridewell was erected c1522 by Henry VIII, to the west of Fleet River near Whitefriars; in 1552 Edward VI gave it to the City of London for a workhouse (the scene depicted here).
