Box Cottage, also known as The Red House, Subrook Lane, is a late seventeenth or early eighteenth-century house in the Petersham conservation area of Richmond-upon-Thames. It was was Grade II* listed in 1950 as Box Cottage The Red House, listing number 1252876. This view shows a front boundary wall under construction, with a single course of traditional yellow bricks already in place, the start of some gate piers, loose bricks stacked in small clusters along the pavement, cement sacks, buckets, a spirit level, and a Bedford pick-up truck parked in the driveway loaded with builder's sand and a spade leaning against its dropped side. One of the builders, with another spade, is just in view to the left. Some conifers surround the front garden, and Box Cottage's prominent chimney stack, parapeted frontage, windows and pedimented doorcase are visible beyond.
