Houses in Highgate Hill
Description
View of Cromwell House, Ireton House and Lyndale House (104, 106 and 108 respectively) and 110 Highgate Hill, Highgate. The land on which Ireton House and next door Lyndale House sits previously housed a cottage owned by George Crowther, which subsequently was acquired by the Sprignell family in 1640 and sold as a single house in 1663. They formed a single residence in the late-seventeenth century but were largely rebuilt around 1730. Cromwell House was built for Richard Sprignall, a Captain of Train Bands, between 1637-8. In 1868 it was leased by the Hospital for Sick Children for use a convalescent home for Great Ormond Street Hospital, however the Home was closed in 1924. Cromwell House was then occupied by various groups including the Mothercraft Training Society, the Church of England Zenana Missionary Society and the Montfort Missionaries. It is most recently the consular and business section of the Ghana High Commission. Ireton House and Lyndale House are Grade II* listed, while Cromwell House is Grade I, listing number 1079233.
