Title
Clock Tower in Crouch End Broadway
Description
The clock tower at the north end of The Broadway, Crouch End, seen from the south-east. Traffic waiting to emerge from Park Road, which runs towards Muswell Hill, can be seen to he left of the tower. The tower, erected in 1895 in 'appreciation and recognition of the public services' of local benefactor Henry Reader Williams (1822-97), was unveiled on 23 June 1895. Williams was Chairman of the local authority of Hornsey in 1880-94; immediately after Williams's retirement from his work for the local council, it was decided by the newly designated Hornsey Urban District Council to erect a clock tower to celebrate his achievements. This is a view from Weston Park.
