Title
Hornsey Town Hall in The Broadway
Description
View of Hornsey Town Hall, 26 The Broadway, Crouch End, from the west. A Grade II* listed building, it was built on land acquired by the erstwhile Hornsey Borough Council in 1920, to house a replacement for its former offices. The building was started 1934 to a design by a young New Zealand architect, Reginald Uren, an associate of Charles Holden (architect of several London underground stations). It incorporated offices and a hall for public performances, and is set at the back of an open space on the east side of The Broadway. Following the creation of the Greater London Council in 1965, Hornsey was amalgamated with Wood Green and Tottenham to form Haringey, and the council offices were no longer required. As of May 2020 there is a plan to develop the site with two seven-storey blocks of flats, and to convert the town hall to an hotel and an arts venue.
