Title
Construction site in Strand
Description
View of a building under construction in Strand, Covent Garden. The building was created as new premises at 263-265 Strand for Carr's, an old-established restaurant in the area. Parts of the building are seen through scaffolding and a long ladder runs up the scaffolding. Much of the area was rebuilt in the early-twentieth century as part of plans to create Aldwych and widen Strand. A poster on the hoarding around the site advertises a fancy dress ball with £300 in prizes. A man can be seen at the entrance to the site on the right. A tramline runs in front of the site. The building no longer exists and a later commercial development occupies the site.
