Description
Rear view of part of the Treasury Building, Whitehall, City of Westminster from Horse Guards Parade. Whitehall runs south from Trafalgar Square towards Parliament Square, the site previously occupied by the Palace of Whitehall, the residence of Kings Henry VIII through to William III, before it was destroyed by fire in 1698. Treasury Buildings including the Privy Council Office and Cabinet Office. It incorporates the remains of Henry VIII's Whitehall Palace, Dorset House 1700-10, William Kent's Treasury 1733-36, Privy Council and Cabinet Offices 1824-27 by Sir John Soane, remodelled and altered as the Treasury 1845-47 by Sir Charles Barry. All are in use as government offices. It is Grade I listed number 1267063. Exterior of the Lord President's Room, part of Kent's Treasury of 1733-36. Canted bay of three storeys leading out on the ground floor to a small garden laid with a lawn. Cast-iron balcony around the first-floor windows.
