Description
Park Front Foreign Office, Whitehall, City of Westminster view east from St James Park. The North Block of a massive building planned around courtyards to an 1861 design, completed 1873, by Sir George Gilbert Scott with Sir Matthew Digby Wyatt. It fronts on to Downing Street, Horse Guards Road, King Charles Street and Whitehall. At the time containing the Home Office, Foreign Office and the Commonwealth Relations Office. It is Grade I listed number 1066102. In the foreground large flower beds of St James Park, the oldest royal park, redesigned by Charles II with avenues of trees planted and lawns laid out, and then opened to the public.
