Banqueting Room of Londonderry House, 19 Park Lane, Westminster. Features a formal dining room of rococo revival style with long mahogany dining table and high-backed, upholstered chairs. Ceiling is richly adorned with ornate stucco plasterwork featuring swirling acanthus leaves, floral motifs and central medallions and the walls panelled with ornate plaster mouldings. The central chandelier is gilded bronze. Arched doorways feature, with heavy drapery. Gilt framed paintings hang on the walls. On the left, a rococo-style console table stands against the wall, with carved, gilded legs and marble top. The floor is covered in a large, patterned rug with a floral motif. Originally called Holderness House, later Londonderry House, it was built 1760-65 and remodelled for the 3rd Marquess of Londonderry by Benjamin and Philip Wyatt from 1825-28. During World War I, the house was used as a military hospital. After the war it became the London residence of the Marquesses of Londonderry who entertained extensively, hosting royal and foreign dignitaries there as well as political gatherings. It was sold to a developer in 1962 who subsequently demolished it and built the "Londonderry Hotel" on the site. COMO Metropolitan London now occupies the site of Londonderry House.
