Description
Oblique view along the front elevations of 51-77 Denbigh Street, Pimlico, looking down to St George's Drive from the junction with Charlwood Street, which can be seen to the right. They are double bay terraced houses with painted stucco exteriors which have projecting arched front porches with stone balustrades to a balcony on top of them and to the second floor. At the curved apex of the sharp corner, number 51 has curved windows, including an elaborate pediment and balcony to the second floor. The ground-floor windows are arched whilst those on the second floor have ornamental, horizontal pediments. There are iron railings with stairs down to the basement levels. Parking meters can be seen nearest the camera and there is a modern sodium streetlight and two pedestrians can be seen. The area was built in the mid-nineteenth century as part of Thomas Cubitt's development for the Grosvenor Estates. Denbigh Street cuts diagonally across the grid pattern since it dates from the early nineteenth century, as a road running down to the River Thames.
