Title
Buildings in Durham House Street
Description
A view east along Durham House Street, Strand, Westminster. The buildings on the left are the rear elevations of approximately numbers 56-62 Strand. They were demolished soon after this photo was taken in 1924 and the front portion of the site was used to increase the width of Strand. The bridge was built in 1799 to connect Coutts’ Bank at 59 Strand with the rear of Coutts’ Bank buildings on John Street. The bridge no longer stands. There is an early motor car parked under the bridge, registration LR-5770. There are two men sitting in a doorway wearing flat caps. There is a street bollard in the foreground with nice markings, including one that says ‘Westminster’.
