Fairfax House in Putney High Street
Description
View of Fairfax House, Putney High Street, Putney. The origins of Fairfax House date to the Elizabethan era, with parts of it dating to 1600. Fairfax House was alleged to have a subterranean passage to a house in Putney Bridge Road. The front of the house has a large double street door with an arched hood above it. The front of the building is partly covered with ivy and there is a large tree to the left. A metal railing fence runs along the front, with a single gate on the left. A few men and a policeman are visible, some looking at the camera. Fairfax House was demolished in 1886. Its site is now occupied by the junction of Putney High Street and Montserrat Road.
