Description
View from the junction of Ridgway with Denmark Road, showing 73-75 Ridgway, Wimbledon, with shops on each corner. Number 73 is Jenkins Tobacconist & Confectioner with goods displayed in the window including a number of Easter eggs in boxes. There is a large advertisement for Silk Cut cigarettes on the first-floor brick frontage. There is an advertisement for Player’s cigarettes over the shop door and a sign for Wall’s stands out from the wall. The shop on the opposite corner, number 75, is W H Cullen family grocers and wine merchants. Goods displayed include soft and alcoholic drinks, and posters advertise prices. A street sign for Denmark Terrace is above the window. Belgrave Hall, a bookable venue for recreational use, is a few doors down on Denmark Road, behind Jenkins’ shop with a sign affixed to the first floor for Belgrave Harriers, an athletics club founded in 1887. Belgrave Hall is the Harriers' club house. Saloon cars are parked the length of Denmark Road.
