Title
Glancairn House in Ridgway
Description
Front and side elevation of Glencairn House, 70 Ridgway, Wimbledon. A large, irregular-style house built in 1866 and designed by an architect of Huguenot decent, Robert Lewis Roumieu. Situated on the east side of a short cul-de-sac which gives access to King’s College School. The School took a lease of Glencairn in 1914 for use as a boarding house, and it remained as such until 1948 when the lease expired. It was then considered too expensive to buy. Glencairn House lies within the Ridgway sub area of the Merton Council conservation area and is Grade II listed, listing number 1286086. It has since been divided into three houses.
