Description
Front elevation of 25 West Street Lane, Carshalton, an eighteenth-century weatherboarded house which has some later extension. It is Grade II* listed, listing number 1065641 and within Sub Area B West Street of the Carshalton Village Conservation Area. This was the home of the Whitaker family and Sir Edward Whitaker, an officer of the Royal Navy known for his role in the Capture of Gibraltar and the Battle of Malaga in in 1704. A Royal Navy frigate in service during the Second World War, HMS Whitaker, was named after him. He died in Carshalton and was buried in Carshalton churchyard in 1735.
