Description
Sydney Road is an estate of late-Victorian houses off Church Road in the Sheen Road conservation area of Richmond-upon-Thames. This view shows the central one of three blocks of three-storey terraced houses at 33-36 on the west side of Sydney Road, number 32 being in the foreground. This has five houses, while the outer terraces, including 24-27 visible beyond, have four each. The frontages of the outer houses of each terrace are perpendicular to those of the inner houses and their entrances are thought to have been flush, as shown, although it is not known if the adjacent corniced single-storey garage extension was a conversion of an original structure. The street-facing frontages are generally unaltered. Some of the houses have been extended to the rear and the inward facing houses including numbers 32 and 33 have two-storey extensions added. Most have had the front gardens turned into car ports, so losing much of the foliage shown. Number 32's drive and patio garden have been relandscaped, although no less neatly than those shown. The tail end of a Morris Traveller is just visible, parked in number 33's driveway beside a white-painted dividing wall.
