Description
Sydney Road is an estate of late-Victorian houses off Church Road in the Sheen Road conservation area of Richmond-upon-Thames. This view from the southernmost of the road's two right-angled corners shows one of three blocks of three-storey terraced houses at 33-36 on the west side of Sydney Road, number 36 being in the foreground. The frontages of the outer houses of each terrace are perpendicular to those of the inner houses, number 36's entrance being out of view to the left. The frontages of the houses are generally unaltered, although number 36's second floor window has been moved and replaced with a modern frame, and the bricks filling in its original location are slightly darker in tone. Some of the houses have been extended to the rear and the inward facing houses have all has two-storey extensions added to the original entrances so they now face towards the road. Most have had the front gardens turned into car ports, so losing the mature trees shown, but number 36's curved brick corner boundary wall remains unaltered.
