Description
Sydney Road is an estate of late-Victorian houses off Church Road in the Sheen Road conservation area of Richmond-upon-Thames. This slightly tilted view shows a pair of semi-detached houses at numbers 22-23, which are three-storeys with half-level basement, and the end of a terrace of four three-storey houses at numbers 18-21 at the north end of the estate. All are listed locally as Buildings of Townscape Merit. The side entrance extension to number 22 shown has since been extended and remodelled in similar style and materials to the second storey. Number 23 looks in need of repair work. Its entrance extension is hidden from view, but this house has since been extended to three-storeys with hipped roof, thought to be converted into flats. Number 22's full-width car port has since been relandscaped with a traditional brick boundary wall and two mature trees now surround the lamp post, also since replaced by a modern steel type. Number 20, mostly cropped from view, appears to have a painted brickwork, though this has since been removed. Parked in number 21's paved car port is an Austin 1300 and a Renault 6. A Triumph 1300 with fitted roof rack is parked in the road.
