Description
This view shows part of the row of Victorian two-storey semi-detached houses at numbers 2-24 on the north side of Townshend Terrace in the Sheen Road conservation area of Richmond-upon-Thames. All share similar window surrounds, a central arched false window, and a pair of diamond pattern motifs in red brick, contrasting with the yellow brick frontages, although they are difficult to see in this black and white photograph and the nearest pair at numbers 22 and 24 have also been whitewashed. All are listed locally as Buildings of Townscape Merit. The exteriors as viewed from the road appear to have been little altered since the photograph was taken, although some fencing and hedges shown have been removed and controlled parking bays have been created along the road. The cherry tree obscuring numbers 18-20 has also gone. Vehicles parked towards the far cul-de-sac end of the road include a Triumph Spitfire, a Land Rover, a Triumph Herald and, in a distant driveway, a Ford Thames camper van.
