Description
The Terrace, which runs alongside the Thames in Barnes in the Barnes Green conservation area of Richmond-upon-Thames, has several eighteenth and nineteenth-century houses of exceptional quality. This three-quarter view shows 3 The Terrace, a five window wide three-storey eighteenth-century house that was Grade II listed in 1951, listing number 1252878. The exterior is little altered since, although the front boundary hedge has been removed and iron railings stand in their place. Also shown is part of the confectionary shop at 36A Barnes High Street, the adjacent wall having a panel advertising Bette Davis, Olivia De Havilland, and Joseph Cotten in 'Hush...Hush Sweet Charlotte' playing for seven days at a cinema in Hammersmith, a leaning poster board advertising The Beatles in 'A Hard Day's Night' playing at the Globe Cinema Putney (Elvis Presley and Kid Callaghan also mentioned), and other signs with R WHITE's LEMONADE and Sparkling Sunfresh drinks. Beyond at 3A The Terrace, a single-story front extension is shown running as a shoe repairs shop, since reprofiled and converted to residential use.
