This view shows a row of eighteenth-century buildings presenting as shop fronts at numbers 22-28 on the north side of Thames Street in the Hampton Village conservation area of Richmond-upon-Thames. Nearest is number 22, shown here as the Twenty Two Restaurant, which is early eighteenth-century and was Grade II listed in 1983, listing number 1252977. Stepped back from the row, number 24 is late eighteenth-century and is also Grade II listed, listing number 1262014. Number 26 was also Grade II listed in 1983, listing number 1262001. Number 28, with the oriel window, is listed locally as a Building of Townscape Merit. All appear to be in residential use today. The flanking wall of number 34, also listed locally, is visible beyond with a poster advertising Simple Soap, which at that time was a relatively new product made in the historic factory across the road. The curving brick wall to the right of view is part of the former Red Lion Hotel, built in 1909 to replace the previous Red Lion inn building, parts of which may have dated back to Tudor times.
