Description
Strand House at 3 The Embankment is an early eighteenth-century house facing across the Thames towards Eel Pie Island in the Twickenham Riverside conservation area of Richmond-upon-Thames. It was Grade II listed in 1952; listing number 1358069. Taken during renovation work, this view of the house's frontage gives a clear view of its red brick and tiled roof construction, two dormers, five window width, and pedimented door surround with rusticated uprights. There appears to be hole in the brickwork between two of the first-floor windows, and a contractor's sign is fixed across two windows stating ANOTHER DEVELOPMENT BY T&N CONSTRUCTION LTD TWICKENHAM. The sign below is believed to be for Amos Broom Associates, Charted Surveyor. The view shows the front boundary walls of the properties, with an alley that divides their front gardens. To the left of view is 2 The Embankment, of similar age and at one time the home of The Who's songwriter and guitarist Pete Townshend. It was Grade II listed in 1952; listing number 1080813. The house at number 5 The Embankment partly visible to the right of view is thought to be seventeenth century and was Grade II listed in 1983; listing number 1080814.
