Sion Cottages in Ferry Road
Description
This view shows two of a terrace of cottages known as Sion Cottages at numbers 5 and 7 Ferry Road in the Twickenham Riverside conservation area of Richmond-upon-Thames. The plaque in what appears to be an infilled door or window to number 5's first floor is thought to show the date 1832. Number 5 is shown with a pedimented door canopy having a shield motif. Apart from being painted, their exteriors appear to be unaltered today, and they are listed locally as Buildings of Townscape Merit. Also visible beyond is a terrace called Redkaps Cottages, which are set perpendicular to Sion Cottages and date from 1854, also listed locally. They are served by a narrow pathway, Ferry Road bending out of frame to the right, leading down to the riverside by the historic public house called The White Swan.
