Cottages in Holly Road
This view shows a terrace of two-storey cottages at 13-23 Holly Road in the Twickenham Riverside conservation area of Richmond-upon-Thames. Believed to date from the mid-to-late nineteenth century, when the immediate area west of London Road was developed after the railway and the original station were constructed in 1848. Listed locally as Buildings of Townscape Merit, their exteriors are little altered today, although there is now a white picket fence to their front boundaries and the small gardens are more generously planted than shown. Number 23 has been slightly remodelled as the passageway shown has since become its front entrance, and its canopied door replaced with a window of similar proportion and style to the existing one. The brickwork has also been painted over.
