Title
Houses in Queen's Road
Description
Front elevations of a pair of mid nineteenth-century, symmetrical semi-detached houses at 39-41 Queen's Road, Richmond upon Thames. The three-storey houses plus basement have a two-window range and part-panelled and part-glazed door with fanlight above. There is a Juliet balcony to the second-floor window. The basement has been converted to a garage. Number 41 has a single step to a small front patio and a flight of eight further steps to the entrance. Four pairs of piers of different sizes can be seen fronting the entrance, with two piers having identical plant pots atop. Four steps to a side access can be seen with two timber planks resting on them. There is a small porch light next to a round plaque on the front elevation. This plaque could refer to the philosopher, Bertrand Russell, who it is suggested, may have lived at this house in the mid-twentieth century. There is a partial view of numbers 39 and 43 Queen's Road. The houses were designed in the Dutch style by Sir Thomas Newby Reeve and were originally known as Park Villas West. The houses lie within the St Matthias Conservation Area.
