General view of 18-23 The Quadrant, Richmond upon Thames. In the centre, at numbers 19-21, is an early twentieth-century, three-storey building with signs showing it trading as "MAPLES" furniture and carpets store. It has a two-three-two window range on the upper levels with large plate-glass windows at ground-floor level fronting showrooms within. Furniture on display includes tables, a lamp, a suite of chairs and some carpets. A sign in the window says, "MUCH MORE TO SEE IN OUR UPSTAIRS SHOWROOMS". Spotlights are suspended from the ground-floor ceiling. There are rectangular concrete pillars on the pedestrian footway, supporting the upper-floor frontage. There is a flagpole on the roof. As of 2023, this building is a bank. To the left of the image is a partial view of a four-storey building at 18 The Quadrant, at the junction with Quadrant Road. There are signs at ground-floor level indicating a closing-down sale. This building today is an optician's premises. To the right of the image is a partial view of the front elevation of 23 The Quadrant, a late nineteenth to early twentieth-century building designed to resemble a church or chapel in Gothic style and trading as "BONSOR AND PENNINGTONS" estate agents. There is a door with the number 23A above. This building today is still an estate agents trading as "CHANCELLORS", who were the original owners of the building when first erected. In the ground-floor window is a display of photos of houses for sale with a "LEEDS PERMANENT BUILDING SOCIETY" sign above. A woman is looking at the photos. Street furniture in view includes a long section of pedestrian guardrail, no-entry signs and a bollard. Several pedestrians are in view. The buildings lie within the Central Richmond Conservation Area.
