View of the rear elevations of 55-59 Petersham Road, Richmond upon Thames. They are part of a row of two- and three-storey houses built c1720. Number 55, to the left of the image, has two storeys with bay windows plus an attic and basement. At basement level there are two windows and an open door leading to a patio area with a clothes horse, chair, extending ladder, canvas-covered deckchair and a garden hose attached to an outside tap. There is a pair of metal cables attached to a beam and a wooden trellis attached to a pillar, which is supporting a ground-floor veranda with a decorative iron balcony rail. There is a low-level garden wall with a trellis above and a lawn leading down to the river Thames (not in view). Number 57, which has three storeys and a basement, is largely obscured by overgrowth, as is number 59. Numbers 55-59 Petersham Road were originally numbers 4-2 The Paragon and are Grade II listed, listing numbers in order: 1065330,1357739, 1065331. The popular occultist and magician, Aleister Crowley, lived at 57 Petersham Road in 1939-41. The buildings lie within the Richmond Hill Conservation Area.
