Title
House in Parkshot
Description
This view shows an early-nineteenth-century three-storey house at 3 Parkshot in the Central Richmond conservation area of Richmond-upon-Thames, which was Grade II listed in 1976, listing number 1285377. Its frontage remains largely unaltered today apart from the reinstatement of Georgian windows and remodelling of the front garden. To its right is number 4, one of a terrace of early Georgian houses at 4-6 Parkshot that were Grade II listed in 1968, listing number 1357756. The terrace served as an entrance to the Salem Baptist Church, which occupied the site to the rear of these buildings until it moved to Windsor Road, Kew, in 1973. The large arched entrance replaced two windows of number 5 and is just out of view. The chapel, warehouse, stable buildings, and some of the rear extensions of this terrace were demolished during the 1970s and the front elevations restored to something more like their original appearance. The building to the left of view has been replaced by an office block with neo-Georgian styling and rusticated ground-floor exterior. The wooden structure on the side of number 3 appears to have pipes sticking out, indicating it may have contained some form of water storage tank.
