Cottages in Park Road
This view shows a row of cottages on the south side of Park Road at the centre of the historic village of Hampton Wick in the correspondingly named conservation area of Richmond-upon-Thames. Most are believed to have been built during the mid-nineteenth century and are listed locally as Buildings of Townscape Merit. Prominent in view is Avondale Cottages at 9-11, built by John Beauchamp, a pork butcher, who subsequently added number 13 as a shop front for his business, still evident from the ornate lintel above the Georgian style window shown here. Slightly set back at numbers 15-17 is Myrtle Cottages. The terrace of cottages beyond at 19-25, set back further still, is Beaumont Cottages, built by John's brother Edward in 1850 and named after his wife Sarah Beaumont James. Also shown parked in the road are Triumph Dolomite, a Ford Cortina with a long telescopic radio aerial emerging from its offside wing, and a Vauxhall Viva HC Estate.
