Title
Cottages in Park Road
Description
This view shows a row of cottages on the south side of Park Road at the centre of the historic village of Hampton Wick in the correspondingly named conservation area of Richmond-upon-Thames. Most are believed to have been built during the mid-nineteenth century and are listed locally as Buildings of Townscape Merit. Nearest to left of view is number 31, Meadow Cottage, now named Middlewick House, which was built by Edward Albert Wright in 1850 as his own home. The Wrights were painters and glaziers who purchased land in this area and built a number of properties, including Alpha Cottages at 33-35 and Cecilia Cottages 37-39, which were built by Edward's father Albert for his daughters Emma and Cecilia. Beyond is number 41 Park Road built by Jesse Huntingford, another notable local developer of the day. Also in view is a concrete street lamp, two Morris Travellers, one only partly in view, and a Morris Minor saloon.
